Homework 7
For Homework 7 you will be continuing your practice with Excel to compliment what you've learned in class.
During the second class period of learning Excel/Calc we talked about graphing and conditional logic. By using conditional logic (IF, SUMIF, and COUNTIF functions) we have more control over the results in a given cell.
For this assignment you will take the roll of an investor. Using market research, you will review different small businesses and decide which ones are worth investing in. You will make a table in an excel sheet that looks like the following:
| Company Name | Cost to Run (Monthly) | Total Revenue (Monthly) | Popularity | Profitability | Investment Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Street Sprinter | $1000 | $1200 | 20% | ||
| Dull | $5000 | $5600 | 50% | ||
| I AM M | $2200 | $3000 | 25% | ||
| Blackkit | $900 | $1800 | 35% | ||
| Macrohard | $3500 | $3000 | 10% |
The rest of the chart will need to be filled out by you. The profitability is the percentage of the revenue that exceeds the running cost (for example, if you make $12 and spend $5, your profitability is 1-(5/12) = 7/12). The investment amount column will contain the amount of money you are willing to invest in the company. There are two types of investment you are willing to undergo. The first type of investment is paying 40% of their running cost. The second investment type is paying all of their running cost. You are willing to pay 40% of the running cost for companies that are either over 25% popular, or that are over 30% profitable. You are willing to pay the total running cost of a company that meets both of these requirements. If a company is not worth investing in it, put the words no investment into the field. You will fill out the Investment Amount column using conditional logic.
After this section is completed you will make a summary section. Each field should contain a formula to reach a value. Your summary section should resemble the following:
| Total Investment | Number of Companies Invested In | Total Amount Invested Based on Popularity | Total Amount Invested on Profitability | Number of Companies Invested In Due to Popularity | Average Investment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
When all of your data is filled in, create a graph in a new tab named Graph. This should be a bar graph of each company's popularity. Make sure to include the names of each company in the legend.
Grading and Submission
For a better idea of how this will be graded, you can check the gradesheet. Make sure to save this document in XLSX format, and then submit it to the Homework 7 locker via WolfWare Submit.
