2004-05 Faculty Laptop Pilot

On March 16, 2004, the College of Engineering launched a Faculty Laptop Pilot program to coordinate with its pilot program in Student-Owned Computing, now in its fourth year. This web site serves to help faculty get to the resources and information they need for this and other faculty-computing projects in the college.

The forty COE faculty chosen for the pilot have a $2,500 stipend for laptop and software purchases. Please see the proposal at the top of the list at the right for information on the pilot and faculty selection.

Hardware: We recommend that faculty make individual purchases through the NCSU Bookstore. The bookstore is set up to assist with upgrades, peripheral purchases, returns to the repair depot, and has loaners available for use during the repair process.

If these laptops do not meet your needs, the minimum specifications are listed at:

If faculty have additional questions regarding the laptops, contact Kathy Mayberry, kathy_mayberry @ ncsu.edu.

Software: The college and university have software arrangements with many vendors. Faculty will find that some base packages are provided to them for free. Other software can be purchased through the bookstore, see also:

Seminar: A two-day seminar was held on August 10-11 to acquaint faculty with tools for remote access and security and on campus resources and software they can use in their classes.
