Accounts in Summer Students not taking classes in summer but pre-registered for fall keep full computing privileges over summer, including access to lab computers. No fee! If not pre-registered for fall, a student's account is disabled for summer.
Accounts after Graduation Accounts remain active for four months after graduation. Graduates have no access to lab computers, but they have full access to their accounts via remote services, including user email and Web pages. No fee! |
All
faculty, staff and students receive an NCSU computing account when employed
or registered for classes at North Carolina State University. Before 1996,
Eos (engineering) and Unity (campus) computing accounts were separate. Now,
Eos/Unity is a fully merged network realm, requiring only a single account
to access. For the purposes of this manual, Unity refers to resources
that are campus-wide, and Eos for engineering-only resources.
The Unity account gives the user access to the NCSU academic computing environment, principally from labs and classrooms, but also from offices, smaller user clusters, and remotely. The user also has access to a large shared software suite, public printers, help-desk support, and to many online campus resources, such as from the library. Resources exclusively for the individual include an email account, unrestricted Internet access, 300MB of storage in network file space (AFS, IMAP mail, and Novell), and personal Web space (see User Space and Quota). Policies Policy links appear at the right and must be reviewed thoroughly by the user. Conduct in the labs and online is governed by university rules and regulations. Users are held responsible for their use of equipment and resources. Fees Students pay computing fees when they pay their tuition and fees each semester. The Education and Technology Fee (ETF) is $175/semester and helps pay for Unity , software, and support services from the Information Technology Division. Engineering students also pay a $45/semester Eos fee for the following additional resources:
Distance education students can consult the information at distance.ncsu.edu. Engineering distance education students should consult engineeringonline.ncsu.edu. Help and Information The Guide to Eos and Unity Computing user manual is available online (either the web version or in PDF) and in NCSU Bookstores for under $20. Users can also get assistance from the ITD Help Desk. 208 Hillsborough Building In addition, the College of Engineering offers E115: Introduction to Computing Environments, a required course for all engineering majors, and the ITECS Help Desk for engineering students, staff and faculty. 204 Daniels Hall |
