Remote Access to Computing at NC State University

   
 
         
     

North Carolina State University provides services to remotely connect its students, faculty, and staff to the campus computing system. This site contains instructions for utilizing these remote access services.

Although this site is maintained by the College of Engineering, its contents apply to campus-wide resources.

To use most of these services, you will need an Eos/Unity account.

Making Connections

Connecting to NC State from off campus first requires that you have Internet access provided by an Internet Service Provider. We also recommend that you have a high-speed connection through DSL or cable modem rather than a dialup modem.

To protect the privacy of those who use our services, we use secure, encrypted communication for the services we provide. Also, whenever possible, we use free open-source technology to implement remote access.

Engineering Now offering Remote Access to Solaris/Linux via Virtual Computing Labs

New remote access resources include 24x7 machine room servers and “after-hours” ENGR public lab machines, all offered via the Virtual Computing Lab project. This Sysnews post contains more information.

Engineering General Remote Access Servers using memory and process restrictions as of July 1st, 2005

Users of process intensive applications within the College of Engineering should instead use VCL or LSF. This Sysnews post contains more information.
