Purchasing a Computer

Thinking about purchasing a laptop? Our Purchasing site has answers to many frequently asked questions. If you already own one, we have a list of recommended specifications for laptops to make sure that your computer will serve you well.

What do other students bring?

According to the results of our survey, 97% of incoming Freshmen in the College brought a laptop computer in Fall 2007. Over 99.5% brought a computer of some kind. The survey results provide more detail about what student have been bringing.

How are laptops used in classes?

Laptops are used for a wide variety of purposes in class. From simple note-taking to 3d design and CAD projects, faculty and students work together to get the most out of the technology that is available. The widespread laptop ownership by students in the College allows faculty many possibilities for innovative teaching.
