Timeline for Summer 2008 Laptop Purchases

April: List of recommended laptops and prices posted on this web site
May: Laptops go on sale at NCSU Bookstores
June 1: Earliest purchase date for inclusion of computer costs in financial aid
July 2: Deadline for placing an order at NCSU Bookstores for pick up during the NC Sales Tax Holiday Weekend. (Tax-free orders can still be placed through the Tax Holiday Weekend for pickup later or on move-in weekend. Orders take up to four weeks.)
July 16: Deadline for placing an order at NCSU Bookstores for pick up during move-in weekend
July 21 - August 1 : College of Engineering New Student

Purchasing ThinkPads and Apple Laptops
ThinkPads and Apple laptops can be ordered via the NCSU Bookstore. Online ordering will be the primary method of purchasing. If you have questions, you can call the NCSU Bookstore at (919) 515-3438.
You can pre-order from the NCSU Bookstore, and you can expect to receive the laptop 3-4 weeks from the day you order it.
Sales Tax Holiday
North Carolina has had a Sales Tax Free weekend during the first weekend of August for the past few years. It has not been annouced yet for 2008; usually the announcement is made only a month or two in advance.
If you want to take advantage of the State of NC Sales Tax Holiday, you must pay the balance owed during that Holiday. Therefore, you can not take possession of the laptop prior to that weekend, as the transaction must be completed during that weekend. If you want to receive the laptop during the Holiday , it must be pre-ordered by July 2, 2008, as this allows ample time for the laptop to arrive at the Bookstore by the Holiday.
However, you can still take advantage of the Sales Tax Holiday and receive the laptop by the beginning of the semester by pre-ordering up until July 16, 2008. In this case, you would be able to pay the full balance during the holiday , and at that point the laptop would be completely paid for. The laptop would still arrive around 4 weeks from the time it was pre-ordered, putting the delivery date right at the weekend prior to the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester.
